Make it stand out.
Kite Life started in 2021 on a sofa having a chat. I had met Anya this magical sustainable bag designer and environmentalist. We shared the same values and asked what if we could make a difference. What if we can empower those less fortunate than ourselves to create sometheing made in the islands and not imported whiclst trying to decrease waste in the islands.
It has been a roller coaster of a ride and we are still fighting to reach our goals but now Kite Lfe is a non-profit organisation dedicated to sustainability, zero waste and prison rehabilitation in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Disiscarded kites are now repurposed into stylish, eco-friendly bags; we reduce landfill waste and CO2 emissions while creating a circular economy.
We empower inmates by providing them with valuable skills in stitiching and teamwork offering a path to employment and breaking the cycle of reoffending.

Designed to stand out.
Rooted in sustainability.
Refurbishing kites into bags is an innovative approach to sustainable fashion, transforming damaged or retired kites into unique and colourful totes. Kites, often made from durable, lightweight, and colorful materials like ripstop nylon or polyester, offer excellent potential for creating vibrant and functional items. By upcycling these materials into bags, or accessories, designers not only reduce waste but also highlight the importance of repurposing non-biodegradable items. This creative process merges sustainability with style, turning discarded kites into statement pieces that celebrate both individuality and environmental consciousness. It’s a bold step towards rethinking how materials can be reused in the fashion industry. As an island chain which imports mostly everything waste is a massive issue and until now landfill the only option.
Kite Life is commited to education in sustainability, slow fashion and the zero waste.
Stitch in time
Changing lives one stitch at a time
Kite Life collaborates with Stitch in Time a group started in 2021 by the rehabilitation unit of the Grand Turk Correctional Center. We work with mainly young men who are on the road to a new life. There are no gaurantees that the skills we give them - stitching, team work, time management will be enough to change their lives but that is the intention. During their time on the inside they are armed with skills that they never had before. They show up and are paid a salary for every bag produced. As they learn new techniques, they move to work on more intricate designs. The inmates work closely with our teachers who build on basic skills. They nurture them into having pride in what is achieved as they add new skills to their repatoire. None of this can be achieved without the rehabillitation team, who work closely with Kite Life and their wards.
The bags are all individual and hand cut from a variety of colourful kites and are 100% made in the Turks and Caicos Islands. They are purchased by individuals, hotels, retailers and dive shops. If you are interested in ordering or collaborating on a project please contact us.
Kite Life is always looking for HELP. We need people and money that can help the project grow and work towards having a permanent offsite workspace and shop. Can you help? Don’t hessitate to contact us.
